There is the weather you can see, and there is the weather inside you. Most of the time, those two things track each other closely enough that you don’t notice they’re separate.

Until they aren’t.

It’s a warm afternoon in April. The window is open. The birds are loud. You went for a walk and the air smelled like spring, the way it does. By every external measure, the season has changed.

Inside, nothing has moved. The same heaviness you’ve been carrying since January is still there. The same low-grade bracing in the chest. The same colour-drained quality to everything that’s supposed to be becoming brighter.

Your inner weather hasn’t received the memo that the outer weather has changed.

This isn’t unusual. It’s just rarely named.

What Inner Weather Actually Is

Inner weather is what your nervous system, your body, and your subconscious are doing - independent of what the outside world is doing. It has its own atmosphere. Its own season. Its own temperature.

For most of life, it tracks the external weather, because the external weather is one of the major inputs the system uses to calibrate. Light, warmth, length of day, time of year - all of that influences what’s happening inside.

But the inner weather has its own logic too. It carries everything you’ve been holding. The unresolved things. The accumulated stress. The patterns that haven’t updated even though the calendar has. The grief you didn’t quite finish. The bracing that started in November and never got told to stop.

When the inner weather has been running its own program for a long time, the outer weather can change without it noticing. May arrives outside, and inside it’s still February. The trees bloom and your chest stays winter.

That’s an inner climate that has been operating without being updated.

Why "Just Match the Outside" Doesn’t Work

The advice, when this is happening, is to try harder to match the outside. Get out in the sun. Open the windows. Wear lighter clothes. Eat seasonal food. Force yourself into the activities of the season.

That helps the body register the season. It doesn’t update the inner weather. The inner weather has been running on its own program for months or years, and a walk in the sun doesn’t override a program that has been quietly issued for that long.

The conscious mind - the part scheduling the walk, opening the windows, putting on the lighter clothes - accounts for about 5% of your total mental activity. The other 95% is the subconscious, and it’s the part actually running the inner weather.

For people whose inner weather lags, that 95% is usually running something like: The cold is the safer place. Letting go too soon is risky. Keep the bracing for now. The outer warmth could be a trick. Wait longer. Stay ready.

That isn’t a thought you walk around with. It runs quietly, like background processing. And every outer-weather adjustment gets received by it and treated as additional input, not as a reason to update the program.

The walk happens. The 95% keeps running winter. The inner weather stays.

What Updates the Inner Climate

I came across Inner Influencing as someone who could feel the gap between my inner and outer weather pretty acutely, and who had run out of the conventional inputs that were supposed to close it. I’d done the spring things. I’d done the summer things. The inside of me was still operating on a separate, slower clock.

What I found in Inner Influencing was something that operated on completely different logic. Different enough that I went on to train as a Master Practitioner, and it’s now the foundation of the work I do with clients.

Inner Influencing is an established methodology for communicating directly with the subconscious mind. A direct instruction, structured in a specific way the subconscious can receive without resistance. The pattern doesn’t have to be analyzed or understood to be updated. It just needs the right signal.

That signal comes through a carefully worded statement using a trigger phrase - "Purple Cow" - that’s deliberately unusual. The oddness is functional: it cuts through habitual mental processing and tells the subconscious that what’s coming is a direct instruction, not another thought to file away. One statement. Said once. No repetition required.

Try It for Yourself

Read each statement below slowly - out loud if you can. Say it once, then stop. Let a moment of quiet follow before moving to the next.

Notice whatever comes, even something small. A small thaw inside. A breath that goes deeper. A sense, even faint, that the inner weather just registered something about the outer.

Statement 1 · The Surface Pattern

“Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will get rid of the inner weather that has stayed stuck in winter long after the outer weather has changed, and update my inner climate to match where I actually am, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful.”

“Purple Cow.”

Say it once. Then pause and notice.

Statement 2 · The Hidden Layer

“Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will get rid of any belief that I have to keep bracing, that letting go will be punished, or that the warm season is not for me, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful.”

“Purple Cow.”

Say it once. Take a breath. Let it settle.

Statement 3 · Opening the Positive

“Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will make it easy for my inner weather to update with the outer, and to inhabit spring and summer fully when they arrive, with no part of me still living in February, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful.”

“Purple Cow.”

Say it once. Then simply rest for a moment.

What Just Happened

Whatever you noticed, even something faint, even just a moment of the inside being a little closer to the outside - that was your subconscious receiving an instruction at the level where the inner climate is held.

It doesn’t usually arrive with drama. Sometimes it’s quiet. A breath. A sense that something inside might be allowed to register the season.

What you just experienced is just the beginning of how Inner Influencing works. The deeper practice reaches the older layers - the early instructions about staying braced, the inherited beliefs about whether warmth is safe, the patterns that have been keeping your inner clock set to the coldest month.

The free Inner Influencing Discovery Kit takes you further into the practice, explains the science behind why it works, and opens the door to that deeper clearing.

The outer weather changes when the calendar tells it to. The inner weather changes when the program does. The program can be updated.

That’s what you’ve just started.
